The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner, M Dana Kishore on Wednesday conducted surprise visit to the basti dawakhanas to see how they are working.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner, M Dana Kishore on Wednesday conducted surprise visit to the basti dawakhanas to see how they are working.

The Commissioner along with additional commissioner Sikta Patnaik, zonal commissioner Raghuvar inspected the basti dawakhanas at Begumpet and Shamlal buildings. The Commissioner said that most of the poor people come to the basti dawakhanas. About 80 patients visit each basti dawakhana daily and most of them complained about the blood pressure and skin diseases.

He instructed the health officials to provide all the necessary equipment useful to patients in all the basti dawakhanas. Free medicines should be provided to the patients who all come to the hospital, he said.

Basti dawakhana in every slum

Dana Kishore said that around 1,451 slums were there in Greater Hyderabad which includes 986 notified and 465 non notified slums. Around 112 urban health centers were working in city presently and GHMC has decided to start 200 basti dawakhanas in city in future, he informed.

Commissioner inspects night shelters

The Commissioner inspected the Begumpet night shelter, which was set up for the homeless people as well as for the night stayers who comes to the city for various works. He inspected the facilities, primary health check up facilities being providing to the stayers in shelter homes.

Commissioner instructed the staff at shelter homes to maintain cleanliness in shelter homes and he urged stayers also to maintain the cleanliness. There are around 12 nigh shelters operating in city which includes 8 shelter homes for men and four belongs to women. He informed that another seven night shelters construction work is under progress at an estimation of Rs 9.71 crore.

Multipurpose function hall inspected by commissioner

The Commissioner said that the community halls located in the city would be made available for the benefit of the poor in Greater Hyderabad. Multipurpose function hall in Bansilalpet has been inspected.

The GHMC is giving Bansilalpet function hall to the people for Rs 20,000 for their events, staff told to commissioner. He said that community halls should be provided to the poor people to conduct their functions with less cost.
