Banjara Hills: The wires and cables are precariously poised posing a serious threat to pedestrians and commuters Near Nagarjuna Nagar colony in Banjara Hills. Despite the issue being highlighted in the media and follow-up by residents, these hanging wires have not been removed.
The wires and cables are mostly found at the intersections and on the main roads tied from one electric pole to another or one tree to another. These wires and cables are tied temporarily and can fall down easily. They are hanging precariously such that they could cause an accident by hitting a commuter.
Santosh, a shopkeeper, said, "We've lodged many complaints, but everything has gone in vain. These wires are meant for either internet or a cable connection. While leaving wires and cables openly and hanging is illegal, however, these wires could be removed only by electric board and participation of residents."
Overhead cables and internet wires are not the only concern, but wires hanging on the roads near junctions and intersections is also a major issue. These wires can be seen across the city along the roads hanging and tied to streetlight poles. In many cases these wires hang over the heads right in the middle of the roads posing risk of accidents, especially to bikers.
At some of places the wires have been kept on ground just at the middle of the zebra crossings. Srinivas, a resident of Sneha Enclave, said, "They claim that pedestrian paths are safe while they let these wires lying on zebra crossings. This is ridiculous. Traffic and civic department should act together and ensure that no such wires are left there."
