Grand Bathukamma festivities from Oct 10 to 18: Chief Secretary

Hyderabad: Elaborate arrangements are being made to celebrate Bathukamma, the unique floral festival of Telangana culture, in a grand manner from October 10 to 18, informed Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju here on Saturday.

A high-level review meeting was held at the Secretariat to review arrangements for the Bathukamma celebrations. The Chief Secretary said that “Saddula Bathukamma “ celebration would be organised on Tank Bund on October 18 on a grand scale with the participation of thousands of women carrying Bathukammas arrive in a procession from the Amaraveerula Smaraka Kendram (Martyrs’ Memorial) opposite the Secretariat and proceed towards Tank Bund. Hundreds of artists would also participate in the procession, showcasing various traditional art forms.

In view of the Bathukamma festivities, the Chief Secretary directed officials to install Bathukamma displays at major junctions across the city to create a festive atmosphere. He also instructed the concerned departments to decorate all major government offices in the city. As large numbers of women from nearby localities, colonies and settlements are expected to gather on Tank Bund to participate in Bathukamma celebrations, officials were directed to make necessary arrangements to ensure that they face no inconvenience. The Chief Secretary informed that a special logo reflecting the spirit of the Bathukamma celebrations is being designed. The logo will also incorporate the Telangana Global Summit, which is scheduled to be held in December.
