High command reaches out to Surekha

Hyderabad: Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha has stayed away from the ongoing Telangana monsoon Assembly session following her dismissal from the State Cabinet. Surekha was removed from the Cabinet on September 3, while the Assembly session commenced on September 7.

Considerable curiosity emerged within political circles regarding whether she would attend legislative proceedings. However, she remained continuously absent until Friday. Against this backdrop, Congress party in-charge for Telangana affairs Meenakshi Natarajan reportedly spoke to Surekha over the phone, enquiring about recent developments within the party and the broader state political situation.

According to sources, Natarajan advised Surekha to set aside internal differences and personal issues to resume an active role in party activities. Surekha ongoing absence from the Assembly has become a major discussion topic within Congress circles, giving significance to direct high command intervention. With this outreach, political anticipation mounts over whether Surekha will attend proceedings on the final day of the session on Saturday. Meanwhile, political analysts debate whether BJP criticism of Congress regarding the Backward Classes issue prompted high command to urge her attendance.

The BJP criticized ruling Congress leaders, questioning their position on including an OBC column in the second phase questionnaire of Census 2027. The national leadership of Congress has highlighted the OBC census demand as a major issue to challenge the Central Government. Against this backdrop, Surekha continued absence could provide opposition parties an opportunity to target ruling Congress leaders and question their stance on OBC representation. Political developments have triggered speculation over whether the high command conversation was intended to ensure her presence in the House, preventing opposition parties from gaining political mileage. All eyes now remain on Surekha to see if she attends the Assembly on Saturday.
