Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party will conduct a month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' as part of a national programme to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of service as Chief Minister and Prime Minister.

Addressing the media here on Friday, BJP state unit chief N Ramachander Rao said that Narendra Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and has now completed 25 years in public service - 12.5 years as CM and 12.5 years as PM. He called this “a rare milestone in democracy”. The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan will run nationwide from Modi’s birthday on September 17 to October 17, in line with BJP leadership’s directions.

Since September 17 happens to be the ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ as well, the BJP TG unit chief said the campaign will start that evening in Hyderabad with the 'Aashirwad Ka Diya' programme. He encouraged everyone, especially those who benefit from central schemes, to light lamps at home to express thanks and support for Modi’s leadership. Its speciality lies in instilling a spirit of service among workers rather than limiting itself to political matters.

Rao said the activities during the month will include blood donation camps, Swachh Bharat drives, essay competitions, ‘Mere Sapno Ka Bharat’, ‘Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra’, and ‘Sushasan Seva Samvad’, among others. He added that the campaign will also celebrate the birthdays of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on September 25 and Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. Ramachander Rao said that Prime Minister Modi’s vision has brought about a sea change in India’s economy.

The Jan Dhan Yojana alone gave 80 crore poor people bank accounts, and the Direct Benefit Transfer system reduced corruption and cut out intermediaries. Debunking the claims of its critics, he said India now makes up 41 per cent of global UPI transactions. Further, the country's GDP has grown by 7.8 per cent; at the same time, inflation dropped from 9.7 to 2.5 per cent. Referring to the Centre's empowerment schemes, he pointed out that it is providing Rs. 1 lakh in assistance to artisans through the Vishwakarma Yojana.

It has provided financial security to nearly two lakh street vendors in Telangana. He added that this is the highest in the country under the PM SVANidhi scheme. Ramachander Rao praised Modi for enacting protection laws for doctors during COVID-19, providing free vaccines, and exporting them to other countries.
