The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) rescued a 40-year-old man, who was trapped between a lift and the building wall at an apartment in Anjaneya Nagar, Moosapet, on Sunday.
According to HYDRAA, a malfunction in the lift sensors led to the accident. The incident occurred in a three-storey building equipped with an old, grill-enclosed lift.
The victim, identified as Murali, had travelled with his wife from the ground floor to the second floor. When the lift reached the second floor, Murali attempted to step out. At that moment, another person reportedly pressed the lift button on the third floor, causing the lift to move upward suddenly. Murali’s one leg was inside the lift while the other was on the second-floor landing when the lift moved, leaving his leg trapped in the grill.
Murali’s wife, who was inside the lift, raised an alarm. Residents of the apartment rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue him, but were unable to free him. They subsequently alerted the HYDRAA control room at around 9.15 am. A HYDRAA Disaster Response Force (DRF) team from Kukatpally, led by Marshal JDV Prasad, reached the building at around 9.30 am and launched a rescue operation.
The Sanathnagar Fire Station personnel were also alerted and brought a hydraulic cutter to assist in the operation. “After nearly one-and-a-half hours of efforts, the teams managed to free Murali at around 10.50 am. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment,” said JDV Prasad and added that Murali suffered a fracture after his leg was trapped between the lift and the wall.
JDV Prasad said the coordinated efforts of the DRF and fire personnel helped complete the rescue operation safely.
