Hyderabad: BRS leaders said their party chief K Chandrashekar Rao was following the path of former Chief Ministers NT Rama Rao, J Jayalalitha and N Chandrababu Naidu, who were allegedly humiliated in the House, boycotted the Assembly and later returned as Chief Ministers with a fresh mandate from the people.
The party leaders on Sunday said KCR had no need to attend the Assembly merely to listen to what they described as “street-level language” from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. They said that after the Assembly session, KCR would take the agitation to the streets and launch a direct mass movement involving thousands of people.
BRS Legislative Party (BRSLP) Deputy Leader T Harish Rao made these remarks after a meeting of the BRSLP held at KCR’s farmhouse at Erravalli on Sunday.
Harish Rao said a massive movement would soon be launched under KCR’s leadership against the Congress government’s alleged negligence towards the Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation projects.
“Even though the Congress government has completed 1,000 days in office, it has deeply betrayed people from all walks of life. This government has blatantly deceived students, the unemployed, government employees, farmers, women, and the Dalit, Tribal and BC communities,” Harish Rao said.
He said the BRS had decided to strongly demand at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting that the Assembly session be held for at least one month to comprehensively discuss public issues.
The BRS leader said the party would confront the government in the Assembly over several issues, including the alleged harassment of farmers by placing agricultural lands on the prohibited list under Section 22A, power cuts, failure of the loan waiver scheme, cancellation of Polytechnic GO 97, alleged Singareni scams, and pending PRC, DAs and EHS issues.
He said the future of 30 lakh students in Telangana was being jeopardised as fee reimbursement dues remained unpaid.
Harish Rao alleged that Revanth Reddy, unable to govern effectively and facing public backlash, was resorting to diversionary tactics by raising the issue of KCR’s resignation.
“It is Revanth Reddy who should resign first for reneging on the loan waiver promise despite swearing on deities, and for failing to implement the Six Guarantees,” he said.
He added that BRS MLAs and MLCs had unanimously decided that KCR need not participate in discussions with the Chief Minister.
Harish Rao also questioned the security provided to KCR, the Leader of Opposition and a two-time Chief Minister, and asked why Revanth Reddy was “resentful” about it.
He alleged that Rs 40 crore was being spent on security and four gunmen assigned to Revanth Reddy’s brother Tirupati Reddy, who, he said, did not even hold the position of a ward member.
