Law should evolve to keep pace with tech advancements: TGCHE chief

Hyderabad: Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) Chairman Prof V Balakista Reddy stressed that laws must evolve to keep pace with rapid technological advances.

Delivering a keynote address at a seminar held at the Palamuru University College of Law on Saturday, he said, “when technology advances, the law must also move forward in alignment with it.” He emphasised the need to frame laws with future requirements in mind, given the emergence of new technologies in sectors such as aviation, space, defence, maritime, information technology, and intellectual property.” He explained that technology plays a pivotal role in the service sector amidst globalisation and noted that international agreements—such as the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) under the WTO—are creating new opportunities for the sector. He further highlighted that digital communication, e-mail, and other technological mediums are enabling the exchange of services between providers and recipients located in different parts of the world. He highlighted that space technology currently benefits the public across various sectors, including communication, weather forecasting, agriculture, navigation, and disaster management. He explained that, alongside scientists’ technological successes, an effective legal framework is needed to regulate this technology and safeguard public interests.
