Ministers meet Governor, complain against BRS over ‘purification’ ritual

Hyderabad: A delegation of Ministers led by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday and submitted a complaint over the alleged "purification" ritual carried out by BRS leaders at Erravalli.

The ministers apprised the Governor of the conduct of BRS MLAs and MLCs on the first day of the Assembly session, particularly the alleged objectionable remarks directed at Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti, Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Seethakka, Adluri Laxman, Ponnam Prabhakar and Mohammed Azharuddin were among those who met the Governor.

Minister Adluri Laxman accused the BRS of displaying an "arrogant and feudal attitude" and alleged that BRS MLCs had verbally abused the Speaker and his mother.

He alleged that the reported "purification" of the road near KCR's farmhouse, after Dalits staged a protest by playing traditional drums, reflected an anti-Dalit mindset.

"We complained to the Governor about the practice of untouchability exhibited by KCR," Laxman said. He questioned whether the reported purification ritual was carried out at the direction of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). "Is the humiliation of Dalits happening at KCR's behest? If KCR did not order it, why is he remaining silent?" he asked, demanding a clarification from the BRS chief.

Laxman said the Assembly Speaker had responded to a complaint lodged by BRS women MLAs, ordered an inquiry and assured that action would be taken against those found responsible. He asserted that there was no place for untouchability or caste discrimination in a people's government and said such incidents would not be tolerated.

The minister said the delegation had specifically approached the Governor to bring the alleged conduct of BRS leaders to his notice.
