Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad/Panaji: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday urged the people of Goa to support the Congress in the 2027 Assembly elections, while drawing a parallel between the combative forces in the Ramayana and the political contest in the state.
Addressing a public meeting as part of the Goy Rakhonn Yatra (an outreach to “protect Goa's land, identity, culture, and heritage against the ruling BJP government”), he said, “Ravana represents the BJP, and Rama represents the Congress. To defeat Ravana, you must all stand in support of Rama, that is Congress.”
Revanth Reddy said he was in Goa as a representative of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who could not attend due to protest programmes in Delhi. He said AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge had asked him to represent Rahul Gandhi at the meeting.
The Telangana Chief Minister expressed his confidence that the Congress would return to power in Goa in 2027, saying he sensed the same optimism that he had witnessed in Telangana ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.
He urged voters to support the Congress’s hand symbol, claiming that votes for other parties could benefit the BJP. Revanth Reddy accused the BJP government of allowing Goa to become a hub for drug trafficking and questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had failed to implement their ‘Nasha-Mukt Bharat’ vision in the state. Revanth Reddy said: “Modi and Shah have turned Goa into a hub for drug peddlers.
Does this bring glory to Goa, or does it tarnish its reputation? Our wish is simply that Goa's youth do not fall prey to drugs and that Goa's reputation remains untarnished. In Goa, a vote cast for any party other than the Congress effectively goes to the BJP. Should drug lords and the land mafia be allowed to rule the roost in Goa? Just think about it”.
The Telangana Chief Minister alleged that Goa’s youth were falling prey to drugs and said the state’s reputation was being damaged. Referring to Telangana’s anti-drug initiatives, he said his government had established the EAGLE force to combat drug trafficking and claimed that investigations had revealed networks linked to drug supplies from Goa.
The Chief Minister challenged Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to explain the continuing drug menace despite the availability of enforcement agencies at both the state and central levels. He urged the government to protect young people from drugs and safeguard Goa’s image.
Revanth Reddy alleged that local lands and assets were being transferred to outsiders, warning that Goans could become strangers in their own land if the BJP returned to power for a third consecutive term.
He said some locals had begun referring to Sawant as “Property Sawant” to criticise the alleged transfer of land and assets. Criticising the BJP-led central government over electoral roll revisions, Reddy alleged that the votes of poor people, Dalits, Adivasis and minorities were being targeted for deletion.
He accused the government of attempting to divide the country, contrasting it with Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to unite people through the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
