Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders and activists staged a Chalo Lok Bhavan protest in Hyderabad on Thursday against alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Tension prevailed during the rally organized by the Congress party when leaders alongside activists marched from the Indira Gandhi statue on Necklace Road towards Lok Bhavan. To deescalate tension, police arrested TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and State Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Vakiti Srihari, and Adluri Laxman Kumar as they staged a sit-in at Lok Bhavan.
Addressing the gathering, the TPCC President highlighted widespread public suspicion regarding alleged discrepancies in the nationwide voter list revision. He emphasized that the Election Commission bears the primary responsibility of safeguarding voting rights vital to the democratic framework.
Demonstrators demanded the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar while urging the Central government and the Election Commission to maintain absolute transparency to restore public confidence in the electoral system.
Furthermore, Congress leaders strongly condemned the recent arrests of Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, senior leader Priyanka Gandhi, and INDIA bloc Members of Parliament, who were protesting peacefully to protect democratic institutions. Terming these arrests illegal and undemocratic, state ministers affirmed that the Congress party will continue its sustained struggle to uphold constitutional values and safeguard democracy.
