Telanagana SIR deadline extended to October 7

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India on Monday revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana, extending the window for voters to file claims and objections by nearly three weeks. According to the updated timetable issued by Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharsan Reddy, the period for submitting claims and objections, originally set from August 17 to September 16 2026, has now been extended until October 7 2026. The extension allows electors additional time to verify electoral details, rectify errors, and submit necessary claims.

The poll panel also pushed back the deadline for the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections. Originally slated to wrap up on October 15, the hearing and disposal process will now run until November 5 2026. Consequently, the final publication of the revised electoral roll has been rescheduled from October 19 2026 to November 9 2026.

The schedule revision follows appeals from state leadership and election authorities. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy previously wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar requesting a three-to-four-week extension, citing that the initial timeline was insufficient for complete coverage. Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharsan Reddy similarly sought a three-week extension, pointing to a large volume of pending notice deliveries and a limited number of completed hearings.

The extended timeline ensures thorough voter coverage, systematic verification of pending applications, accurate processing of objections, and timely disposal of claims across all districts prior to the final electoral roll publication in November.
