Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is witnessing a surge in passenger traffic during the Dasara festival, with around 1.4 crore passenger trips recorded in the first three days. The corporation has deployed additional bus services to meet the growing demand and ensure convenient travel for passengers.

TGSRTC Managing Director Y Nagireddy held a review meeting with officials on Monday to assess the festive rush and the operation of additional bus services. He directed officials to take all necessary measures to prevent inconvenience to passengers and continuously monitor bus services throughout the festive season.

TGSRTC has increased its special bus services this year to accommodate the heavy passenger rush. During the first three days of the festival in 2025, the corporation operated 922 additional buses. This year, it deployed 1,417 special buses on October 9, 10 and 11—495 more than last year. The increased services are aimed at providing better transport facilities for people travelling to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with their families.

Furthermore, the state government’s Mahalakshmi scheme, which provides free bus travel to women, continues to offer significant financial benefits during the Dasara festive season. According to TGSRTC, women saved an average of Rs 13.02 crore per day during the festival last year. This year, the daily savings have increased to Rs 13.73 crore during the festive rush. Anticipating another rush of passengers travelling to their native places, Nagireddy directed officials to operate additional buses on October 15, 16 and 17, depending on passenger demand.

The MD instructed officials to closely monitor operations and ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience while travelling during the festive period.
