Hyderabad: Maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards drunk driving, the tri-commissionerate traffic police caught 923 drivers under the influence of alcohol during a special drive across the city. Within Hyderabad limits, police caught 397 offenders between Friday and Saturday, comprising 320 two-wheeler, 28 three-wheeler, and 48 four-wheeler drivers. Meanwhile, Cyberabad police nabbed 292 individuals over the weekend, including 240 two-wheeler, 12 three-wheeler, and 40 four-wheeler drivers.

During the past week spanning September 7 to 12, courts disposed of 681 drunk driving cases in Cyberabad, sentencing 18 persons to jail, imposing fines with social service on seven, and fining 656 individuals.

In Malkajgiri, police nabbed 234 offenders over the entire week, including 195 two-wheeler, 10 three-wheeler, and 29 four-wheeler drivers. Malkajgiri police reported that courts disposed of 495 cases, penalising 488 persons with fines and assigning fines with social service to seven individuals.

Police cautioned citizens that individuals driving under the influence of alcohol who cause fatal accidents will be arrested and prosecuted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, carrying imprisonment up to ten years alongside fines.
