Proddatur (Kadapa): Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said here on Monday that the state government was taking up drinking water works worth Rs 30,156 crore to provide water facilities to another 27 lakh rural families. The programme includes construction of 13,075 overhead water tanks and expansion of water supply to 24,601 habitations through a 77,243-km pipeline network.

Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan launched works under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 and Amarajeevi Jaladhara aimed at providing a permanent solution to drinking water problems in rural areas.

The leaders unveiled a plaque at the launch of the project at Kothapalli in the Proddatur Assembly constituency of Kadapa district, marking the beginning of a major programme to provide tap connections to every household and safe drinking water to every family.

The Chief Minister said the proposed works would strengthen drinking water supply to 61.60 lakh existing tap connections and ultimately benefit around 3.3 crore people. Of the nearly 95 lakh rural households in the state, around 62 lakh already had household tap connections, he said.

Chandrababu said providing tap water at every doorstep would particularly reduce the hardship faced by women, besides saving the time, effort, and money spent in fetching water and improving public health.

Naidu said the government was focusing on rural infrastructure through the Palle Panduga-3.0 programme, under which works worth Rs 11,085 crore were being taken up for roads, drains, streetlights, and farm ponds. Around Rs 1.30 lakh crore would be spent on rural infrastructure in the coming years, he said.

Naidu said the government was focusing on water management to meet drinking, irrigation, and industrial requirements. Irrigation projects worth Rs 24,000 crore had been taken up during the past two years, while 36 more projects would be launched over the next three years at a cost of Rs 35,000 crore.

The Chief Minister said the Polavaram project would be completed before the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams and it would be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He maintained that utilisation of at least 200 tmc of Godavari floodwaters could transform Rayalaseema.

Naidu said the government was working to provide every family with a house by 2029 and was constructing 19 lakh houses. “Every family should have security, every section should have support and every region should have opportunities,” he said.

The Chief Minister urged people to support the coalition candidates in the forthcoming local body elections, saying the NDA government at the Centre, coalition government in the state and coalition-led local bodies would work like a “triple-engine government”.

“Rayalaseema needs peace, water, industries, good governance, and employment. No conspiracy can stop the rise of Rayalaseema,” Chandrababu observed.

Ministers S Savita, P Narayana, and BC Janardhan Reddy, BJP state unit president PVN Madhav, public representatives, and senior officials attended the programme.
