BRS gets upset when farmers get water, alleges Congress

Wanaparthy: Congress leaders criticised former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy and BRS leaders here on Saturday. They alleged that BRS leaders were forgetting their own statements for political convenience and staging a new political drama in front of the people.

Speaking at a press conference at the district Congress party office, Municipal Vice-Chairman Madhusudhan Goud said people were aware of the allegations of land grabbing, illegal activities, and other irregularities against former minister Niranjan Reddy.

He recalled that a leader who is now with former minister Niranjan Reddy had once criticised him, saying that he could not even win as a sarpanch or ward member and would ultimately be ruined by his alleged involvement in land-related activities. Goud questioned what kind of politics it was for BRS leaders to welcome the same person whom they had once strongly criticised while being in the same party, and then target Congress leaders.

Congress spokesperson Valya Naik added that the people of the constituency were aware of the conduct of BRS leaders and the developments during their previous rule. He said this was why the people rejected them in the elections and sent them home.

Naik hailed Congress adding that it had a history of providing irrigation water to farmers through the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation (KLI) scheme as a result of initiatives taken by the Congress government during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

He recalled the difficulties faced by farmers when irrigation water was being supplied through KLI in the Wanaparthy constituency due to the poor condition of canals. He said the present MLA, Thudi Megha Reddy, who was then a contractor, had undertaken repairs to the canals and supported the farmers.

Naik recalled that the State government had taken several measures to encourage farmers to shift towards short-duration crops amid drought-like conditions and inadequate rainfall across the world.

He commended Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on his recent meet with Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to discuss irrigation-related issues in the interests of farmers.

“At a time when such efforts to provide water to farmers should be welcomed and appreciated, BRS leaders were holding press conferences and making political attacks,” he said.

Congress leaders questioned what message such behaviour sent to democracy. They alleged that BRS leaders were resorting to criticism out of fear that their political failures would be exposed if irrigation water was supplied to farmers.
