Khammam: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Tuesday criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Telangana politics, saying the BJP leadership was daydreaming of coming to power in the state.
Addressing a public meeting at Dammayigudem village in Tirumalayapalem mandal, the Minister distributed the second-phase Indiramma housing sanction letters to 187 beneficiaries. Ponguleti alleged that the BJP, which was in power at the Centre, had turned the Election Commission into an instrument of its political interests and removed 13 crore voters across the country in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He said people in Telangana would not accept the BJP. Reacting to Amit Shah’s allegation that RR Tax was being collected in Telangana and sent to Delhi, the Minister termed the remarks baseless.
He questioned the Centre’s inaction over alleged irregularities in the construction of the Kaleshwaram project during the previous nine-and-a-half-year BRS rule. Although complaints had been submitted to the Centre along with supporting evidence about the corruption and irregularities, no action had been taken even after a year, he said.
Ponguleti alleged that the BJP and BRS were acting in a similar manner and accused both parties of misleading the people through political statements. He asserted that the Congress would return to power in the next Assembly elections and expressed confidence that the party would form the government at the Centre under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership after the next general elections.
The Minister also said that a Congress government at the Centre would implement the Indiramma housing scheme across the country to fulfill the dream of owning a house for eligible poor families.
Among those present at the programme were Congress state leader Rama Sahayam Naresh Reddy, Paleru constituency Atma Committee chairman Chava Sivarama Krishna, mandal Congress president Koppula Ashok and several public representatives and party leaders.
