Kurnool: Demonstrating the critical effectiveness of modern electronic surveillance, a meticulous CCTV trail enabled Kurnool police to crack a series of gold thefts in crowded locations, resulting in the arrest of a female suspect and the full recovery of nearly 30 tolas of stolen gold ornaments.
Announcing the breakthrough at a media conference held at the Vyas Auditorium within the District Police Office (DPO) on Wednesday, Kurnool SP Vikrant Patil stated that the investigation originated from a major theft during the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Aradhana celebrations in Mantralayam. Approximately 24 tolas of gold ornaments had been stolen from the handbag of a woman devotee hailing from Tirupati. Lacking initial leads, special police teams reconstructed the victim’s movements and reviewed extensive CCTV footage from the mutt and surrounding roads.
The probe gained momentum when additional footage from strategically installed cameras helped identify the suspect. Subsequent interrogation linked her to three additional thefts targeting passengers in crowded transit zones, including local bus stands.
Police successfully recovered all 30 tolas of gold across the four cases, and the accused was remanded in judicial custody.
SP Patil emphasized that CCTV cameras proved decisive and urged private establishments and event organizers to install security systems, while advising citizens to remain vigilant with valuables in public spaces.
The SP commended and rewarded the investigating personnel. Kurnool DSP KV Raghavendra, Three Town CI Seshaiah, and Four Town CI Vikram Simha attended the meet.
