Missing student parents speaking to media persons on Sunday late evening in Kurnool
Kurnool: The mysterious disappearance of an Intermediate second-year student from the SR Junior College hostel in Kurnool on Sunday evening has triggered widespread outrage from her distressed parents and local student organizations.
The incident came to light when the parents of the student, identified as Swetha, arrived at the college hostel to visit her. College authorities initially informed them that she had gone out briefly and would return by evening.
However, as hours passed without any trace of their daughter, the worried parents confronted the college management, questioning how a hosteller was permitted to leave the premises without prior parental notification or consent. When contacted, SR Junior College Principal Raghuveer claimed that Swetha had left with her maternal aunt after securing due permission. He stated that the aunt promised she would return within an hour, adding that family differences involving a personal relationship had contributed to the situation.
Unconvinced by the management’s explanation, student organization leaders staged protests, pointing out severe security lapses in safeguarding residential students. They alleged that three to four similar missing incidents had taken place at the institution in the past without corrective action. Demanding immediate intervention, student leaders urged the police and Intermediate Education Department officials to trace the girl immediately and investigate the hostel’s administrative failures.
They further demanded the prompt cancellation of the college’s official registration and recognition, citing gross negligence toward student safety and
security.
