Kurnool: In a major initiative to trace lost and stolen mobile phones, Kurnool district police recovered 589 handsets worth around Rs 1.20 crore and handed them over to their rightful owners at the sixth mobile recovery programme held at Vyas Auditorium on Thursday.

The devices were successfully tracked by the Cyber Lab and local police teams using advanced technical resources.

Kurnool SP Vikrant Patil stated that police have recovered a total of 3,670 mobile phones valued at Rs 7.36 crore across six phases of the recovery drive.

Emphasizing that phones store sensitive personal and financial data such as banking details, contacts, and media, he noted that losing them causes severe distress.

The district IT Core Team and Cyber Lab coordinated efforts to trace devices across state borders, including Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. SP Patil commended the officers and technical staff for their dedication.

Urging proactive measures, the SP advised citizens who lose their phones or face theft to immediately register the IMEI number on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, noting that prompt registration significantly enhances police recovery capabilities.
