Mahabubnagar: Telangana State Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah directed officials to give special attention to resolving issues faced by SC and ST communities. Venkataiah held a review with district officials here on Thursday along with Commission members Rambabu Naik and Konkati Lakshminarayana.

He said SC/ST Sub-Plan funds must be utilised strictly for the intended welfare and development of the respective communities and should not be diverted for other purposes.“Officials and implementing agencies would be held responsible for violations or deficiencies,” he said.

The Chairman stressed the need to provide basic infrastructure in SC and ST habitations, including Anganwadi buildings, drinking water, toilets, electricity, fans and lighting. He directed officials to ensure that reservation and roster rules were strictly followed in government appointments and promotions and that eligible SC and ST beneficiaries receive the benefits of welfare schemes.

Venkataiah appreciated the district administration and police for conducting the SC/ST Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meetings. He directed Tahsildars and concerned police Sub-Inspectors to attend Civil Rights Day meetings regularly and said such programmes should be conducted at locations accessible to all sections of the village.

He also directed officials to submit details of pending funds and issues relating to atrocity case compensation, inter-caste marriage incentives, overseas education and Best Available Schools schemes. He said these matters would be raised at the State-level meeting with the Chief Minister scheduled for September 22.
