Nellore: Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) Environmental Engineer Ashok Kumar has stated that all rice millers in the district must follow PCB norms to prevent pollution-induced health hazards. Addressing an awareness meeting for rice mill owners at the Rice Millers Association Hall in Nellore city on Saturday, he emphasized that everyone shares a responsibility to protect public health.

Noting that these programmes follow directions from Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and APPCB Chairman Krishnaiah, Ashok Kumar clarified that the government supports industries as long as they operate without inconveniencing the public. He pointed out that only 33 out of 64 rice mill owners have responded to directives by installing boiler dust control equipment.

Consequently, Ashok Kumar advised mill owners not to operate boilers until the necessary dust-control machinery is installed, warning that violators will face penalties under Central Pollution Control Board guidelines.

In response, Nellore District Rice Millers Association President Rangayya Naidu assured that the association will promptly take steps to ensure all rice mills install the required equipment.

Association leaders Subramanyam Reddy, Koteswara Rao, and local mill owners attended the meeting.
