Min Narayana gears up for NMC elections

Nellore: With upcoming elections for the Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) becoming prestigious for Municipal Administration Minister Dr Ponguru Narayana, he has begun finalizing candidate selections amidst high interest from multiple aspirants per division.

Following the expansion of divisions from 52 in 2022 to 72, seats are now equally divided with 36 for Nellore City and 36 for Nellore Rural.

Minister Narayana, representing Nellore City, has reviewed survey reports and is expected to officially announce candidate names in the first week of October.

Sources disclose that selections will depend on local rapport, personal character, caste equations, opposition strength, and development work.

Confidential sources indicate that Minister Narayana has decided to back current 14th division corporator Kartham Prathap Reddy, a close follower representing Balaji Nagar. Balaji Nagar features around 7,000 voters and a population across 80 streets. Kartham won in 2022 on a YSRCP banner with a high

majority of 1,920 votes before joining the TDP following political shifts. Narayana previously declared Balaji Nagar a model division after Kartham spent Rs 10 lakhs from his own funds on zebra lines, rope lighting, and tree painting.

Following NMC bifurcation, Balaji Nagar will fall under the 19th division, where Kartham expressed confidence in securing a TDP ticket and winning again.
