Poluboyina Roopkumar Yadav filing nomination as TDP Mayor candidate on Saturday
Nellore: The election for the Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) Mayor post escalated into a high-stakes showdown on Saturday as both ruling TDP nominee Poluboyina Roopkumar Yadav and opposition YSRCP candidate Anam Vijayakumar Reddy submitted their nomination papers, taking advantage of the auspicious ‘Sapthami Thidi’.
Roopkumar Yadav, a prominent leader from the BC Yadav community and uncle of former minister Poluboyina Anilkumar Yadav, had played a pivotal role in YSRCP’s victory in the 2022 municipal elections.
However, following political differences with his nephew, he joined the TDP and contributed to the party’s success in Nellore during the 2024 general elections.
Continuing as a close ally of Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakara Reddy and Municipal Administration Minister Dr Ponguru Narayana, Roopkumar received unanimous backing from TDP leaders, including Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and MLC Beeda Ravichandra Yadav, securing the nomination despite the seat being in the Open Category.
