Erratic power supply leaves paddy farmers worried in Kamareddy
Nizamabad: Agitated over frequent power cuts affecting irrigation, farmers from five villages in Peddakodapgal mandal staged a rasta roko on the National Highway on Saturday, disrupting traffic for some time.
Farmers from Shantapur, Manyapur, Sitarampally, Jagannathpally and Rajapur alleged that irregular power supply during crucial agricultural hours was leaving their standing paddy crops without adequate irrigation. They said the crops had reached a critical stage and months of investment and hard work were at risk.
The farmers claimed that repeated complaints to electricity officials had failed to bring any concrete improvement in supply. Tension prevailed briefly near Shantapur and Jagannathpally junctions when police intervened to prevent the protesters from blocking the main highway. The farmers subsequently staged a dharna and raised slogans against the electricity department. Following intervention by TGDDCL officials, who assured the farmers that technical issues would be addressed and power supply restored, the protesters withdrew their agitation.
