Nizamabad doctors promote healthy living through sports
Nizamabad: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Nizamabad chapter, organized an athletics meet at Nishitha International School on Tuesday as part of its Sports Meet 2026, promoting physical fitness, mental wellness and a drug-free society.
Held under the slogan “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Sports, Say Yes to Life,” the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from doctors across different age groups. Senior surgeon and former IMA Nizamabad president Dr Jeevan Rao flagged off the competitions.
Physicians participated in 100-metre and 200-metre sprint races in the 35–45 and 45–55 age categories. Dr Prashanth Reddy, Dr Deepak Rathod and Dr Ajja Srinivas won gold medals in their respective events.
IMA president Dr Vishal Akula participated in both races, while general secretary Dr Harish Swamy emerged as the lap winner in both track events.
Dr Akula stressed that sports promote endurance, discipline, confidence and mental well-being. He urged young people to shun narcotics, adopt healthy lifestyles and contribute to building a vibrant, addiction-free society.
