Nizamabad: Nizamabad MP D. Arvind said persons with disabilities need opportunities, dignity and empowerment rather than sympathy. He said the Centre was giving priority to their welfare and providing assistive devices to help them lead independent lives.

Speaking at a programme here, Arvind said assistive devices worth Rs 2.10 crore, funded by the Union government, would benefit around 1,000 persons across the Nizamabad Parliamentary constituency. As many as 19 types of devices are being distributed.

He thanked Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar for supporting the initiative. Around 1,000 beneficiaries have been identified in Nizamabad North, Armur, Bodhan and Jagtial-Korutla, while identification is continuing in other areas. Officials were directed to ensure that eligible beneficiaries in remote villages are not left out.

Urban MLA Dhanpal Suryanarayana and other officials and public representatives attended.
