Tea vendor attempts suicide outside Bheemgal police station
Nizamabad: A tea vendor allegedly attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze outside the Bheemgal police station on Monday, claiming that repeated police cases and harassment had driven him to take the extreme step.
Polasa Sudhakar, who runs a small tea stall near the Bheemgal bus stand, reportedly alleged that police had booked petty (PT) cases against him three times and imposed heavy fines. He was reportedly asked to appear at the police station again after another case was registered.
According to sources, Sudhakar arrived at the police station carrying petrol, doused himself and set himself ablaze. Police personnel and bystanders extinguished the flames and shifted him to a hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
A video recorded by Sudhakar after the incident has circulated on social media, in which he allegedly blamed the local SI and police personnel for the harassment. Residents and activists have demanded an inquiry into the allegations and appropriate action.
