Govt will declare drought-hit mandals in October: Minister

Ongole: Agriculture and Cooperation Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu and Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy inaugurated the modernised Prakasam District Central Cooperative Bank (PDCCB) headquarters here on Tuesday. They also unveiled the statues of former Chief Minister NTR and former minister Damachala Anjaneyulu at Pedakandlagunta in Kondapi mandal.

Speaking at the PDCCB inauguration, minister Atchannaidu said that the coalition government aims to bring past glory to the cooperative sector. He informed that the entire cooperative system has been brought online in line with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s vision. He said full digitalisation of cooperative banks has brought transparent, fast services on par with commercial banks. He further said that serious financial irregularities in cooperative banks in Guntur and Vijayawada under the previous government are being probed and criminal cases are being filed against those responsible. He assured that every rupee of the public money would be recovered fully. He also said the state government would officially declare drought-hit mandals by the first of next month due to the El Niño effect, and that banks would provide full financial support to affected farmers. He said the inauguration was held on the death anniversary of the late Damachala Anjaneyulu, who served as PDCCB chairman and rendered great service to the cooperative sector in the erstwhile Prakasam district.

Speaking at the statue unveiling programme, Atchannaidu said that the coalition government is working at double speed to make up for the losses caused to the state between 2019 and 2024. He demanded that the previous government answer for the alleged liquor policy scam of around Rs 3600 crore and also for the irregularities found in the APPSC Group-1 mains evaluation process by the SIT. Speaking at the same event, Swamy said NTR is not just a three-letter name but a symbol of the Telugu people’s self-respect. He said that NTR’s revolutionary decisions such as rice at two rupees per kg for the poor, pucca houses, Janata clothes and equal share for women in property changed the lives of the poor. He said the coalition government would remain in power for a stable period to support the state’s development and the welfare of the people.

Meanwhile, Ministers Atchannaidu and Swamy also inaugurated development works worth Rs 3.85 crore at Thooru Naidu Palem village in Kondapi constituency. The works include pond beautification worth Rs 50 lakh and CC roads worth Rs 3.35 crore.

MLAs Damacharla Janardhana Rao, Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary, Dr Mukku Ugranarasimha Reddy, Inturi Nageswara Rao, PDCC Bank Chairman Dr K Seetharamaih, AP Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Satya and others also participated in the programmes.
