Organ donation saves five lives

Ongole: The family of a brain-dead patient from Gajjalakonda village in Markapur mandal gave consent for organ donation at KIMS Hospitals, Ongole, on Thursday. The decision helped save five patients.

Adimulapu Dayal (55), an ex-CRPF personnel, was suddenly taken ill and was shifted to KIMS Hospitals, Ongole. Doctors diagnosed him with brainstem haemorrhage. Despite all medical efforts, he was declared brain dead. The medical team, in association with Jeevandan Trust, explained the importance of organ donation to the family. His wife Vijayakumari, daughter Ansi, and brothers Chaitanya and Shivamani agreed to donate the patient’s organs. Kidneys, liver, and corneas were retrieved following the necessary approvals and were transplanted to patients who needed them.

Speaking on the occasion, KIMS Hospitals Medical Director Dr T Sreehari Reddy said on Friday that organ donation is a great act of humanity and urged society to come forward with awareness and support. Emergency Physician Dr Bala Murali Krishna observed that organ donation after brain death gives patients a chance to regain life and called the family’s decision truly commendable.

KIMS Hospital Director B Adwik, COO K Anki Reddy, and Regional COO Dr V Praveen Kumar expressed condolences to the family and appreciated their decision.
