A goods train derailed on the railway track on Friday between Kovvur and Pashivedala in the East Godavari district, causing disruption in train services between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. On being informed about the same, the railway authorities immediately set out for the place where the derailment took place in order to assess the situation.

A goods train carrying fertilizer from Odisha to Maharashtra was derailed and eight of its wagons derailed. Due to this derailment, train services of several express trains taking this route were halted. The Vande Bharat Express train, which is destined for Visakhapatnam, had to stop at Samarlakota and so did the Howrah-Tirupati Express train.

There is a delay of around eight hours for trains that run on the Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada main line railway track. But because of the holidays, which include the second Saturday, Sunday and the festival called Vinayaka Chavithi on Monday, a large number of people traveled to their hometowns on Friday, thereby filling up the major railway stations in the Telugu states.
