Rajamahendravaram: The BJP has urged police department to pay special attention to maintaining law and order, particularly in Kakinada city, alleging that the situation had deteriorated in the district.
The demand was made at BJP Kakinada district executive committee meeting held at Paida Srinivasa Kalyana Mandapam here on Monday. District president Bikkina Visweswara Rao presided over the meeting and Rajya Sabha member Paka Satyanarayana, State general secretary Saligrama Lakshmi Prasanna and district in-charge Akula Sridhar attended as chief guests.
A resolution moved by district general secretary Datla Sahithya Varma referred to recent incidents, including the suicide of AE Nookaraju family allegedly following harassment by Sadiq Khan, the murder of a gym trainer in Bhanugudi and the killing of a youth named Giridhar in Sambamurthy Nagar within a week.
Members also sought inclusion of concerns over belt shops operating in the district and the alleged rampant sale of illicit liquor around Peddapuram. The amended resolution was unanimously adopted.
Satyanarayana called upon party workers to work towards regaining BJP’s past political strength, recalling that two MPs had been elected from the erstwhile East Godavari district in 1998.
Lakshmi Prasanna urged workers to prepare for forthcoming local body elections, while Sridhar called for active participation in organisational programmes.
Another resolution thanking the Centre and State governments for expediting Polavaram project works under the ‘double-engine government’ was also unanimously adopted. Around 250 party leaders and workers attended.
