Officials told to work for peaceful Ganesh immersions

Meena stressed the need for foolproof security, traffic diversions, route mapping and precautions regarding electrical wires

Municipal Commissioner Rahul Meena
Rajamahendravaram: Municipal Commissioner Rahul Meena directed officials of all departments to work in coordination to ensure peaceful Ganesh idol immersions without any untoward incidents. At a review meeting held at the municipal corporation office here on Tuesday, he discussed arrangements for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and immersion programmes.
Meena stressed the need for foolproof security, traffic diversions, route mapping and precautions regarding electrical wires. He asked officials to collect advance details of the number of idols to be immersed on each date to facilitate arrangements.
He directed officials to ensure that idols were taken only through designated routes and that pandals did not obstruct traffic. Pandals should be located away from electrical poles and transformers, he said, asking the electricity department to keep linemen readily available.
He also directed officials to prevent the use of plastic plates and glasses for prasadam distribution and make fire safety measures mandatory at every pandal. Loudspeakers and DJ systems would not be permitted after 10 pm.
Additional floodlights and trained swimmers would be arranged at the immersion point as a safety measure.
