4 students killed after being hit by train in AP
Srikakulam: Four students, who were crossing the railway track at Tekkali in Srikakulam district, were killed and one was injured after being hit by a train on Wednesday, a police official said.
Srikakulam District Superintendent of Police K V Maheshwar Reddy said the accident occurred around 1 pm at Ravivalasa area in Tekkali town. "Four students died after being hit by a train and another was injured," Reddy said, adding that the students were under 20 years and from nearby villages.
The deceased were identified as Anguwada Visakha Rao(17), Janni Dileep Kumar (17), Janni Sharat Kumar (17), all natives of Damara village in Tekkali mandal, and Savara Shiva (17) from Meliaputti village.
All are intermediate first-year students at a government college in Tekkali.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed sorrow over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, an official release said.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the students did not notice the approaching train.
According to the surviving student, Ganguwada Salman Raj, they all were attending calls of the nature when the accident occurred.
Raj is undergoing treatment in a local hospital, while Naidu instructed officials to extend aid to the affected families.
