Tirupati: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) deputy executive officer Mendu Lokanadham in a disproportionate assets case.
Lokanadham is the deputy EO in-charge of the Srivari temple at Tirumala and oversees its day-to-day affairs, including crowd management. His arrest comes ahead of the annual Brahmotsavams, which are scheduled to begin on September 14. The TTD will now have to appoint a replacement at the key post as a large number of devotees are expected to visit Tirumala during the festival.
Meanwhile, the ACB action followed information shared by the CBI after it completed its investigation into the Tirumala ghee adulteration case and filed its charge sheet. Based on the information, the ACB had registered a disproportionate assets case against K Chinna Appanna, then personal assistant to former TTD chairman Y V Subba Reddy, on April 22, 2026. Following further inquiry and collection of evidence, the ACB registered a separate case against Lokanadham.
Five ACB teams, under the supervision of Tirupati ACB DSP Srinivasa Rao, conducted searches at several locations linked to Lokanadham from Wednesday morning. The searches included his residence and the houses of his relatives.
According to the ACB, assets worth around Rs 5 crore were identified during the searches. Officials also found 2 kg gold, 6.5 kg silver and Rs 12.50 lakh cash at his residence. Houses and valuable plots in the names of his wife and son were also identified.
After the searches, ACB officials took Lokanadham into custody and shifted him to the ACB office for further questioning. He is expected to be produced before the ACB court in Nellore. The arrest has also led to a political controversy, with opposition leaders questioning the timing of the action and the source of the information that led to the case.
Former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy questioned the ACB’s statement that its action followed information shared by the CBI in connection with the ghee adulteration case. He claimed that Lokanadham’s name did not figure in the CBI SIT charge sheet and that he was not questioned in that case.
Karunakar Reddy also questioned the ACB’s claim about the source of the information, pointing out that the ACB DSP had referred to a complaint and court permission while explaining the searches. He sought clarity on how the case against Lokanadham was initiated and alleged that some TTD officials, along with TTD chairman BR Naidu, had targeted Lokanadham for political reasons.
