Tirupati: Speakers at a student-parent meet held by Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) and AISF on education in Rayalaseema expressed concern over the difficulties faced by students in the region.
The conference was held at the Arts Block auditorium of Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati on Sunday.
PAAP state secretary Gujjala Eshwaraiah said students in the backward Rayalaseema region were struggling due to inadequate educational facilities. He said poor students were finding it difficult to continue higher education because of financial constraints.
The speakers also pointed to a shortage of basic infrastructure in government educational institutions and growing unemployment among youth. They urged the government to fill vacant teaching and other posts on a permanent basis and introduce special educational development programmes for Rayalaseema.
Conference chairman Dr Bhaskar Vediyam said Sri Venkateswara University, which had produced several IAS and IPS officers and political leaders, needed to introduce new courses suited to changing times and employment needs.
PAAP state president Narahari Sikharam said similar awareness meetings would be organised across all districts. Speakers also urged students to understand career opportunities, develop their abilities and work hard to achieve
