TDP and YSRCP leaders clash on first day of nominations
Tirupati: Tension prevailed on the first day of nominations for local body elections in Tirupati, following clashes between YSRCP and TDP leaders at several nomination centres on Friday. The situation turned tense at Korlagunta, Bairagipatteda, Satyanarayanapuram, Sri Krishna Nagar and Maruthi Nagar, where candidates and party leaders had gathered to file nominations.
The confrontation intensified after YSRCP leaders Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and Bhumana Abhinay Reddy along with party activists reached nomination centres. TDP leaders alleged that YSRCP activists snatched nomination papers from women candidates, obstructed TDP aspirants and misbehaved with party workers. YSRCP rejected the allegations and claimed that its candidates were stopped and attacked while going to file nominations. Party leaders alleged that TDP activists created obstacles and disrupted the process and demanded action against those responsible. Heated arguments and jostling took place between the activists of two parties, forcing police to intervene. Police personnel rushed to the spots, dispersed the groups and tried to bring the situation under control.
