Akkineni Hospitals manages high-risk premature delivery
Vijayawada: Akkineni Hospitals has successfully managed a high-risk pregnancy involving the premature delivery of a baby at 26 weeks of gestation, highlighting the importance of timely medical intervention and specialised care in complex obstetric cases. The pregnant woman developed complications due to cervical insufficiency, a condition in which the cervix opens prematurely during pregnancy. Despite undergoing an earlier cervical stitch procedure to help prevent premature delivery, she experienced preterm labour and further cervical dilatation.
The medical team at Akkineni Hospitals carefully evaluated the patient’s condition and initiated appropriate treatment. The treatment included medications to support the baby’s lung development and protect neurological development, as clinically indicated. Considering the serious risks associated with extreme prematurity and the complications involved, the doctors decided to perform a Caesarean section based on the patient’s clinical condition. Speaking about the case, Dr Akkineni Mani, chairman and managing director of Akkineni Hospitals, emphasised the importance of timely medical intervention, expert clinical management and continuous monitoring in handling high-risk pregnancies.
She highlighted the role of specialised medical care in addressing complications and managing challenging situations to safeguard the health of both the mother and the newborn.
