EESL to audit energy, water use at 450 AP MSMEs by Feb

Vijayawada: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is conducting water and energy audits across around 450 MSME units in Andhra Pradesh, with the exercise expected to be completed by February 2027 as part of a State-wide push to lower industrial costs and accelerate cleaner production.

The initiative, highlighted at the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 in Hyderabad, is being implemented under a partnership between EESL and the Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation under the Industries Department.

The audits are intended to identify opportunities for reducing energy and water consumption, improving productivity and cutting operating and maintenance costs. The findings will also provide a basis for wider adoption of energy-efficient and cleaner technologies across MSME clusters in the State.

The programme is particularly relevant to energy-intensive clusters such as textiles and spinning mills, powerlooms, printing, pharmaceuticals, granite cutting and slab polishing, where energy and water efficiency can directly influence production costs and environmental performance.

EESL and the AP MSME Development Corporation began their partnership during the CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam. As part of the roadmap, EESL has completed a study of advanced technologies available in India and global markets. The programme has now moved into the implementation phase, with audits being carried out at MSME units.

For Andhra Pradesh, the initiative comes against the backdrop of a large and diverse MSME base and the State’s efforts to combine industrial expansion with resource efficiency. The 450-unit audit programme is expected to serve as a pilot for scaling technology adoption across other MSME clusters in the State.
