Vijayawada: NTR district collector Dr G Lakshmisha has described senior citizens as an invaluable asset to society, saying their life experiences provide valuable guidance to future generations.
He was speaking at a district-level programme organised to mark the International Day of Older Persons by the NTR District Department for the Welfare of Differently-Abled, Transgender Persons and Senior Citizens at the Freedom Fighters’ Building here on Thursday. DCP KGV Saritha and Second Additional District Judge M Sunil Kumar attended the programme as chief guests.
Dr Lakshmisha said senior citizens should not lose courage under any circumstances as legal safeguards were available for their protection. He assured that the government was extending all possible support for their welfare, safety and dignity.
He appealed to children to respect their parents and never neglect them. Those who ill-treat or act unlawfully against senior citizens would face action as per law, he warned.
DCP KGV Saritha said senior citizens were guides for future generations and their experiences were invaluable to families and society. She called upon everyone to share responsibility for ensuring their safety, dignity and welfare.
Several senior citizens aged between 80 and 100 years, along with old-age home administrators, were felicitated on the occasion. Around 200 senior citizens from district associations and old-age homes attended the programme.
Assistant Director of the NTR District Welfare Department, Vadrevu Kamaraju, Senior Citizens Welfare Association (undivided Krishna district) president Vemuri Baburao, Secretary Motukuri Venkateswara Rao and others participated.
