Worker dies as railway station underpass wall collapses
The wall came down suddenly as the victim, hailing from Assam, was engaged in construction of an underpass connecting two platforms
Vijayawada: In a tragic incident, one construction worker died when a wall of the railway station underpass suddenly collapsed at Madhuranagar railway station in Vijayawada city on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Tabuzuddin, 35, from Assam. According to the reports, the Railways are constructing underpass to connect the two platforms at the railway station. All of a sudden a wall of the underpass collapsed on the worker resulting in the death. The railway authorities swung into action and retrieved the body of a construction worker.
CPM State leader Ch Babu Rao and others reached the scene and began talks with the contractor for payment of compensation to the family of the deceased worker. On the other hand, the Satyanarayanapuram police reached the spot and made arrangements to shifted the body to the hospital for the postmortem. Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the death of a worker near Madhura Nagar railway station.
He sought the government to initiate measures to prevent such mishaps and demanded payment of exgratia to the family of the worker.
Due to increased traffic on the railway route between Vijayawada and Narsapur, the Railways are constructing the second platform and underpass being constructed to connect the two platforms.
