Medical infrastructure in government hospitals across Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Srikakulam districts received a major boost on Saturday with the inauguration of Critical Care Centres under Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav virtually inaugurated the facilities.
In Anakapalli, a Critical Care Centre built at a cost of Rs 22.09 crore was opened at NTR Hospital. MP CM Ramesh, MLA Konathala Rama Krishna and others attended. They said the centre would enable timely treatment for accident victims, cardiac emergencies and critical patients during the crucial golden hour, reducing the need to transfer cases to Visakhapatnam and easing the burden on poorer patients. State-of-the-art equipment worth Rs 7.50 crore will be provided. The hospital, currently with 220 beds and six operation theatres developed with CSR support, plans to expand dialysis services and capacity beyond 400 beds.
In Visakhapatnam, a 50-bed Critical Care Block was inaugurated at King George Hospital (KGH) at a cost of Rs 23.75 crore. MLA Ch Vamsi Krishna Srinivas said it would offer ICU beds, ventilators, continuous monitoring, isolation wards, dialysis and specialised care under one roof, benefiting thousands of poor and middle-class patients.
In Srikakulam, Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu welcomed the opening of a similar 50-bed Critical Care Block at the Government General Hospital, also costing Rs 23.75 crore.
The facility will include maternal and child healthcare, dialysis, ICU, operation theatres, a cath lab and CCU. An MoU with IOCL will supply equipment worth Rs 4.50 crore. The Minister said the NDA government aims to strengthen not only the GGH but also PHCs and CHCs across the district.
