Visakhapatnam: GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg made it clear that the propaganda circulated on various media platforms, in the garb of a member of the Contractors’ Association, alleging that GVMC general funds are being diverted by the state government to Amaravati, is completely false and baseless.

The Commissioner urged contractors not to believe the false propaganda and emphasised that GVMC general funds have not been diverted to Amaravati.

Ketan Garg stated that making such allegations regarding the diversion of GVMC funds without verifying the facts was inappropriate. He said that contractors’ bills are being paid regularly through GVMC general funds. He stated that from the financial year 2019–20 to 2026–27, a total amount of Rs 2,620.28 crore has been paid to contractors against 24,128 bills through GVMC general, he stated.

Ketan Garg mentioned that GVMC accords top priority to the payment of contractors’ bills. He stated that the state government has been extending continuous support for the development of Greater Visakhapatnam. Ketan Garg said that besides sanctioning grants to GVMC under the Urban Challenge Fund, AMRUT, 15th Finance Commission and UFRMP, the state government has been extending support from time to time for the effective utilisation of GVMC general funds for city development, infrastructure improvement and delivery of better civic services to the public. The Commissioner pointed out that the details of payments made to contractors are clearly reflected in GVMC’s financial records. Against this backdrop, the propaganda alleging that GVMC General Funds are being diverted to Amaravati is completely contrary to the facts. He reiterated that no GVMC general funds have been diverted to Amaravati.
