Vijayawada: As part of its community service activities, representatives of the Open Heart social organisation and charitable trust distributed food packets to hundreds of underprivileged people in Krishnalanka, Governorpet, the Railway Station area, Gandhinagar and One Town in Vijayawada on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, the trust president Rasamsetti Nandakishore said the organisation had been working with the objective of supporting poor and vulnerable sections of society. He said the organisation, based in Krishnalanka, had been carrying out various social service activities in Vijayawada for the past 17 years as part of its efforts towards poverty alleviation.

Trust chief organiser Bala Ambikanath said the organisation was providing clothes and essential materials to poor people, those in distress, beggars, homeless persons, workers, women and the elderly. He said extending assistance to people facing poverty and hardship was an important part of social responsibility. The trust was also conducting awareness rallies on various issues affecting society, he added.
