Visakhapatnam: Heavy downpour was witnessed in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday under the influence of deep depression over westcentral and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal.
Incessant rains threw normal life out of gear as many were forced to stay indoors as the downpour continued for hours. Fortunately, despite the deep depression, Visakhapatnam did not witness heavy winds.
According to IMD report, the depression will continue to move west-northwestwardsand and it is very likely to cross north Andhra Pradesh - South Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur and become a deep depression in 15 to 20 hours. Under the influence of the depression, the IMD forecasts heavy rains at isolated places in several parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Given the heavy rains and strong winds reported in several parts of Andhra Pradesh, APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Immadi Prudhvi Tej directed officials to remain on high alert and take immediate measures to handle any emergency situation.
Holding a teleconference with circle superintending engineers, executive engineers and other concerned officials of 12 districts, Prudhvi Tej reviewed the prevailing weather conditions and their impact on the power supply system. He instructed the officials to closely monitor the power network round the clock and take preventive measures wherever necessary. He directed them to keep personnel, vehicles, electric poles, transformers and other essential equipment readily available so that power supply can be restored without delay in the event of outages caused by heavy rains or strong winds.
He advised officials to coordinate closely with local authorities and ensure prompt action wherever disruptions occur.
The APEPDCL CMD appealed to the consumers to report power-related emergencies and outages through the toll-free number 1912 or the respective local control rooms, enabling field teams to respond quickly. Following the rough sea conditions, ishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
