Eye screening for students from September 15

WARANGAL: The District Medical and Health Department will conduct eye screening tests for students studying in Classes 6 to 10 in all government schools across Warangal district from September 15 to December 31.

The special programme aims to identify eye-related problems at an early stage and provide timely medical care to the students.

A preparedness meeting was held at the DMHO office on Friday under the chairmanship of District Medical and Health Officer Dr B. Rajareddy. RBSK doctors and staff, ophthalmic officers and DIS optometrists attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajareddy said special attention should be paid to the eye health of schoolchildren.

Five RBSK teams deployed

Eye screening camps will be conducted in schools three or four days a week. A total of five RBSK teams will take part in the programme in Warangal district. Each team will have an optometrist or ophthalmic officer.

Dr Rajareddy directed the teams to prepare an action plan to screen around 300 students every day.

Spectacles for vision problems

Students diagnosed with refractive errors will be recommended spectacles wherever necessary. Those found to have serious or specialised eye problems will be referred to higher medical institutions for further treatment.

The officials were instructed to send daily reports on the screenings conducted to the district and State offices. They were also asked to prepare an advance plan and conduct the camps in coordination with Education Department officials, school headmasters, local medical officers and other staff.

Deputy DMHO and Programme Officer (CHI) Dr Prakash, RBSK medical officers and staff, ophthalmic officers and DIS optometrists were present at the meeting.
