Groundbreaking held for Jayamma reservoir
Narayanapet: Construction of the Jayamma Reservoir at Jayamma Cheruvu in Perapally village of Narayanpet mandal, as part of the Makthal–Narayanpet–Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme, commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday. Former Narayanpet DCC president Kumbham Shiva Kumar Reddy, Additional Collector Srinu and Irrigation SE Satyanarayana performed the bhoomi puja along with farmers.
Addressing a public meeting chaired by village sarpanch Anjaneyulu, Shiva Kumar Reddy said the reservoir was a long-cherished dream of the region and that its construction had begun after decades of struggle and sacrifices by farmers. He said the project was being dedicated to the ideals of late Chittem Narsi Reddy.
Shiva Kumar thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for supporting the sanctioning of the irrigation project and expediting its implementation.
Referring to government orders, payments through the green channel and an increase in compensation to Rs 20 lakh per acre for displaced farmers, he expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of the region. He said all hurdles would be overcome to complete the project.
Reddy said the sacrifices of farmers who had given up their lands for the reservoir would not be forgotten. He said efforts were being made in coordination with officials to ensure justice for every affected farmer. He urged officials to conduct field-level inspections and record wells, borewells, trees, sheds and other assets on the acquired lands so that all eligible properties could be considered for compensation.
He also said he and MLA Dr Chittem Parnika Reddy would strive to honour the trust placed in them by the people.
He added that substantial funds were being mobilised for education, healthcare and other development works in the region.
