Human chain formed on Valmiki Jayanti

Wanaparthy: A human chain formed at Subhash Chowrasta on Monday marked the celebrations of Valmiki Jayanti in Pebbair. Members of the Valmiki-Boya community from the mandal also organised a bike rally. With approximately 20 motorcycles participating from each village—totalling nearly 200—the rally made its way through the streets of Pebbair.

At Subhash Chowrasta the participants garlanded a portrait of Valmiki and performed traditional prayers before the rally commenced. Following the rally, a public meeting was held; key leaders addressed the gathering.

The leaders demanded the government to persuade the Centre to grant ST status to the community, its primary demand. They warned that parties have been treating the community merely as “voting machines;” it be given due importance in politics, cautioning that failure to do so would invite the wrath of the Valmiki people.

They appealed to CM Revanth Reddy to allocate funds to the Valmiki Federation, pointing out that the community lacks a traditional caste-based occupation; such support would help foster their economic development.
