Kavitha urges government to build cofferdam at Kannepalli
In Short
During her visit to the pump house on Monday, Kavitha expressed concern over the drought situation and the difficulties faced by farmers.

Hanumakonda: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha has urged the state government to construct a 93-metre-high cofferdam at the Kannepalli pump house to divert Godavari water to the Annaram and Sundilla projects. She warned that her party would stage a protest at the pump house if the work was not taken up by the end of November.
During her visit to the pump house on Monday, Kavitha expressed concern over the drought situation and the difficulties faced by farmers. She said nearly two TMC of water was flowing through the Pranahita river daily but remained underutilised. According to her, the cofferdam could be built in about 45 days at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore.
She said the proposal would help recharge the project network without depending on the Medigadda barrage and offered to provide technical details to the government.
Kavitha also called for expediting Kaleshwaram canal works and undertaking repairs to Medigadda barrage. She said an additional Rs 50,000 crore would be needed to irrigate another 19 lakh acres through the canal network.
Warning of possible El Niño conditions next year, she stressed the need to ensure adequate water and electricity for standing crops. She urged the government to prioritise farmers’ interests over politics and warned of protests if their concerns were ignored.
