Rice must be sold at prescribed prices: AC
Wanaparthy: Additional collector (revenue) Vinod Kumar warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found hoarding rice and other essential commodities or selling them at prices higher than those prescribed. “There will be no leniency toward those who create artificial shortages causing public anxiety or those who deceive and inconvenience people,” he said.
He chaired a meeting of the District-Level Price Monitoring and Control Committee at the collectorate on Monday. Kumar noted that it has come to the administration’s attention some traders, anticipating potential rainfall deficits due to ‘El Niño’, are attempting to engage in black marketing by hoarding rice stocks in advance. Traders have been instructed to refrain from such practices and to ensure that rice is sold within the price ranges prescribed by the government, rather than arbitrarily raising prices. “The BPT and KNM varieties must not be sold for more than Rs 66/kg; RNR and Telangana Sona varieties must not exceed Rs 74/kg; and JSR and HMT varieties must not exceed Rs 79/kg,” he said. He advised traders to maintain transparency regarding stocks, supply and pricing of rice and other essential commodities. Any involvement in black marketing, hoarding, unauthorised transportation, overpricing or creating artificial shortages will not be tolerated.
